Genesis are building a reputation for thoughtful and well designed bikes so it is fair to say that there had been a sense of expectation once we knew the Alpitude was winging its way to us. There has been much talk about the Alpitude and the clear design ethos behind it, which was to make a bike that you could… Well thought out geometry, good looks and great handling make the Genesis Core 26.4 stand out as a great bike at a good price. The correct tyre choice would also help calm the stiff and somewhat unforgiving rear end, it is not as harsh as many aluminium frames but taking the edge off it with some floaty rubber would help ease take some of the sting out of the trail. The first thing you notice is that the cockpit is comfortable, it just feels right. Not too long and well balanced with none of the ‘too much weight on the wrists’ feeling that sometimes comes on trail hardtails.
Once rolling the true nature of the Genesis started to shine through, a lively agile ride that encourages you to push on and flick the bike through singletrack whilst looking for roots and rocks to bunny hop and pop off. Cornering is quick and precise with rear wheel drift easily attainable. Over ten years the range expanded beyond commuter bikes to include road, mountain, cyclo-cross, gravel, kids genesis bike and fat bikes.
Our bikes will take you to those places, fulfill your curiosities and make you remember why going for a ride is one of life’s most brilliant experiences. The best riding is off the beaten track, on that road – or path – to who knows where. If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation. Packaging SystemThe packaging system had to accommodate everything from small replacement parts to complete bikes. An impressive fork at this price point and sensible kit are great and the wheels finish the package off nicely but the main attraction here is the geometry.
The Whirlwind from Genesis Bicycles features a custom lightweight aluminum frame, a suspension fork to smooth out rough roads and trails, a 21-speed drivetrain with easy-action twist shifters and a Shimano rear derailleur for big hills as well as long flats. Front disc and rear linear pull handbrakes keep your speed under control, while the overstuffed springer style saddle and rise handlebars give the rider a comfortable and upright riding position. Whether you’re on an off-road adventure or running errands in town, the Whirlwind has all your bases covered. The Genesis™ bicycle rack has the simple “floating” concentric rings that look like an attractive outdoor sculpture. When full, these same concentric rings park bikes safely and securely.

Sears Roebuck and Co. was responsible for some of the most outrageous and sought after bike designs from the 1930s to the 60s. The Bluebird, Robin, Blackhawk, Flightliner and Spaceliner were all Sears exclusives. The Montane Icemen (Pete Sissons and Paul Cosgrove) underlined the bikes capabilities as they used a pair of Croix de Fers to circumnavigate the 1600-mile coastline of Iceland in 14 days.
